The Story of The House of Ellechemy

ELLECHEMY was created for the woman who shifts the energy of a room simply by arriving — the one who dresses not for approval, but to amplify the radiance she already carries. It began when our designer stepped away from a diplomatic corporate life and found herself immersed in the quiet renaissance of feminine living on the Caribbean coast: slow mornings, salt skin, ceremony, life-changing conversations. She began designing dresses for sunrise cacao gatherings on the beach with close friends — pieces made for movement, relaxed beauty, and unconstrained presence. The gatherings turned into photoshoots, the photographs into requests, and demand grew naturally, like tide returning to shore. Natural fabrics lifted in the wind, blending with sun-curled hair and artful tattoos until the garments began to speak on their own. Each piece is still created with that same intention — elastic waist bands for comfort and confidence, hand-dyed for depth and individuality — clothing designed to be lived in, softened by time, and worn by women who embrace who they truly are.

Snapshots 2020-present

I didn't set out to start a fashion house

I designed goddess dresses

As part of my personal rehab from corporate culture, as part of my need to survive the Tulum summer heat in cotton comfort, and wear clothing that helped me remember my true divine nature. Then I lent the garments to friends for photoshoots, demand for the dresses soared. Beach pop-ups turned into a permanent shoppable collection in my living room, we got an investor and the rest is her-story!

About Our Founder

Emily Bauman is the founder and creative director of ELLECHEMY — a barefoot luxury fashion house rooted in ritual, romance, and the felt power of feminine presence.

A Scorpio born to Canadian parents and raised in the Caribbean sun of Haiti, Emily grew up between worlds: salt air and ceremony, academic discipline and day-dreaming. That contrast became her design language — garments that feel both earthly and mythic, effortless yet intentional.

Before fashion, she lived another life in words and images. From 2015–2018 she worked as a Canadian diplomat by day and an exhibiting painter by night, then moved abroad into communications work with the United Nations. After a deep spiritual awakening, she founded a boutique media and publishing house and continues to lead BOSS Books Publishing today, guiding authors and cultural voices into the world. She is also a two-time bestselling author — but eventually language alone was no longer enough. The body wanted expression. Fabric became the new sentence.

In 2020, despite the global pandemic ELLECHEMY was born from that shift — clothing not as trend, but as a catalyst for women remembering who they truly are. Pieces designed to be lived in, wandered in, loved in. Garments that awaken the body’s natural peace and spark sensual joy within the woman wearing them.

Today, she leads ELLECHEMY from Tulum, where the brand’s flagship boutique lives steps from the sea. A solo parent to her darling young son, her worlds continue to intertwine: story, symbol, and silhouette — all devoted to the same question:

How can a woman dress to inhabit 5% more of her soul's beauty and innate power each day?

Emily designs as she lives — slowly, sensually, and with devotion to beauty as a form of truth.
